Quinn is nine years old; he is strong, brave and has magical skills. His younger sister Vita is soon to turn 8 and anticipates the accompanying Scholar ceremony on that same date. Like all Earthlie children at age 8 their true Scholar nature is revealed and they join one of the schools to help develop their skills and attributes.When Maggie and James are invited to return, they hear of a calamitous occurrence. Vita and her best friend, Archer, have been caught by The Snatcher. They are taken through a portal to The Realm of The Grimms; an evil band of ogres. The Grimms are huge and are revoltingly grubby, mean and dull. They treat the youngsters as menial slaves; their only hope is to escape but even then they will have to negotiate the Dark Wilds filled with strange and usual creatures.Maggie, Quinn and James set out to rescue the two friends in time to return for the Scholar ceremony. An adventurous rescue ensues which tests their nerves and skills. The three encounter The Wild Bandits and meet some allies en route to Argatron, the capital city of the Realm. Will they be successful and manage to return home in time for the all-important Scholar ceremony?

The Lammas Challenge is set for the end of August. All Scholars may enter but just one will win the opportunity to wear the Alpha ring. It is hoped the Fair will lure the Snatcher to the Earthlie Realm in an attempt to steal this powerful ring too. The Scholars and The Ancients work together to bring about a dazzling three day fair full or music, entertainment, trade and good food. But who will win the Lammas Challenge on the last day, and have the Scholars taken on too much in a third clash with The Snatcher?

Maggie and James return to the Earthlie Realm to commence their training as Scholars. Maggie trains with The School of Noble Beasts and develops her rare communication skills with birds and animals. James trains with The School of the Keepers of Knowledge, an ingenious intuitive library. Before long they are both swept up in a new rescue mission along with the main characters introduced in book 1. Favourite characters return and some new ones make an appearance. Secrets are revealed and friendships flourish.The evil Snatcher has lured a whole drift of Earthlie ponies through to the Grimm’s Realm. The team, set off on a daring and adventurous rescue through several portals. They encounter The Snatcher face to face and vow to rid him of his enchanted ring once and for all. Each member of the team is called upon to use their unique skills; ingenious gadgets and powers are exercised in a daring rescue mission. Will the Snatcher evade capture? Will the team have to harden their resolve to pit their wits against the Snatcher in a further show down? And will Vince think before he acts in this second adventure ?!
